In the slums of Kenya where Faith Aid operates, thousands of impoverished children lack access to basic medical care and sanitation.
As a direct result, 7.8% of these children die from preventable conditions before reaching the age of five. Behind these shocking statistics are real children with an urgent need – children who without medical treatment and an intervention from Faith Aid, would likely be sentenced to death by treatable conditions.
Inspired by this overwhelming need, Faith Aid has launched the Under Five initiative that will save the lives of hundreds more impoverished children. This initiative will mobilize hundreds of people to save the lives of children, helping them survive and thrive to their fifth birthday and beyond.
Questions & Answers
Can you tell me more about your organization?
Faith Aid & Development moves mountains for vulnerable children in Africa. Our organization is founded on Christ’s promise, that “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move” (Matthew 17:20). Our vision is a world where no child dies from treatable conditions.
What does the “Under Five” name mean?
Across the world, the under-five mortality rate measures the probability of dying between birth and 5 years of age. While much progress has been made globally to reduce under-five mortality rates, the highest rates of child mortality are still in Sub-Saharan Africa where 1 in 9 children dies before age five. Children under five are among the most vulnerable and voiceless in society. The Under Five Initiative focuses on child survival and treatment for African children 5 years of age and younger.
How will Under Five help suffering children?
The Under Five Initiative will support children and their families with access to care and treatment. Gifts from this campaign will cover costs associated with hospital stays, surgeries, and recovery.
Is your team on the ground in Kenya?
Yes. Under Five has a team of social workers and partners in Kenya. Our team identifies, investigates, and builds a personal relationship with all children and families we serve.
